An extremely dangerous mutant coronavirus has been found in Turkey

 

A group of Turkish researchers have identified the most mutated genes of the new coronavirus, the University of Izmir reported. It turned out that changes over time in the Covid-19 genome differ at all stages of the pandemic. And the coronavirus, which mutated the replication system responsible for reproduction, already poses the greatest danger: the virus can lead to disastrous consequences for society if it gets from hospitals to sewage or public transport.

"We assume that the viruses carrying these mutations have a higher rate of spread and therefore their infectivity may also be higher. This allows us to predict the variability and possible infectious effects of coronavirus," explained Dr. Asli Suner Karakulah of the Aegean Medical School of the Turkish city of Izmir.

The researchers have analyzed over 30'000 coronavirus genome data from thousands of patients around the world. The study of the genome showed that Covid-19 mutations affect different parts of RNA to different degrees - some genes mutation is rare, some genes mutation is much more frequent. At the same time, random frequent mutations may significantly increase the infectivity and mortality of coronavirus. And since the highest concentration of pathogens is observed in hospitals where Covid-19 is treated, if the mutant coronavirus manages to break out of medical institutions and gain a foothold in the population, it can cause a social disaster.
