Cyprus: due to lack of tourists the hotels will start to close massively in mid-September

Reducing the list of safe countries in Cyprus will prove to be an additional serious blow for hotels: hoteliers in Ayia Napa and Protaras expect "even harder days". In particular, due to the fact that in group B, tourists from which can get to Cyprus only after a negative test for coronavirus, the other day again got Austria and Switzerland. September and October were usually important months for the tourist sector of Cyprus, with tourists with a higher income than in summer arriving at this time. But the coronavirus pandemic has pushed tourism into a spin, and due to the new closure of borders by European countries in September, no improvement is expected. As explained in the Cyprus Hotels Association, in recent months the island has managed to attract some arrivals from Austria and Switzerland, but both countries have recently been transferred to Group B. And those transferred to group A New Zealand and South Korea, to put it mildly, are not significant suppliers of touris...

An extremely dangerous mutant coronavirus has been found in Turkey

A group of Turkish researchers have identified the most mutated genes of the new coronavirus, the University of Izmir reported. It turned out that changes over time in the Covid-19 genome differ at all stages of the pandemic. And the coronavirus, which mutated the replication system responsible for reproduction, already poses the greatest danger: the virus can lead to disastrous consequences for society if it gets from hospitals to sewage or public transport. "We assume that the viruses carrying these mutations have a higher rate of spread and therefore their infectivity may also be higher. This allows us to predict the variability and possible infectious effects of coronavirus," explained Dr. Asli Suner Karakulah of the Aegean Medical School of the Turkish city of Izmir. The researchers have analyzed over 30'000 coronavirus genome data from thousands of patients around the world. The study of the genome showed that Covid-19 mutations affect different parts of RNA to di...

In Thailand tourists will be put in prisons

The original "tourist attraction" was proposed to be created in Thailand - the country expects to turn about half of its prisons into tourist attractions. And this was announced "from the high tribunes": Minister of Justice Somsak Tepsutin said that in 72 out of 143 prisons in the country there will be organized sports events, art exhibitions, cooking competitions and souvenirs made by prisoners. Moreover, the pilot scheme is being tested in five prisons, including in Trat, Rayong, and Ratchaburi. "This will not only lead to much-needed visitors but will also prepare prisoners for normal social life and change the image of the prison from a twilight world to a world of opportunity," he added. It should be noted that the "conversion" of prisons into tourist attractions in itself is not uncommon - some inactive prisons have been transformed not only into museums but also into luxury hotels. However, their current version is not offered everywhere...
